Kansas City, Kan. – Central Missouri came from the elimination bracket to win the MIAA title with a win over Drury and two wins over top seeded McKendree to win the first ever MIAA Bowling Championship.
The day started with both UCM and Drury facing elimination but the Jennies posted a top score of 219 in the second game and pulled out a close game in the fourth to move on with a 4-1 win.
It was then time for the first championship and UCM jumped on top taking the first three games with a 202, 211 and 201, but McKendree would answer with wins in the fourth and five. The Jennies would shut the door and force the deciding second championship with a 191-154 win in the final game and 4-2 overall.
The stage was set for a winner take all title match and UCM jumped on top first taking the first game 212-183. The Bearcats would answer in the second with a 193-188 win before the Jennies took the third by a 191-178 tally.
MCK would rebound in the fourth taking a 211-198 win to even things up again, but UCM would regain the lead with a 194-169 tally in the fifth. The Bearcats answered in the sixth with a 213-181 win to force a seventh and deciding game. In the tenth frame, needing six pins to win, Brianna Zimmerman found a way to clear nine pins to close out the title.
Zimmerman was named the most outstanding bowler of the tournament as she bowled for an incredible average in the tenth frame to pace the Jennies. The teams will await the announcement of the teams making the NCAA tournament field on Wednesday, March 29 at 3 p.m. as the field is announced on ncaa.com.
