Shank, Hassaballa MIAA XC Athletes of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Mujahid Hassaballa (Pittsburg State) and Kimi Shank (Missouri Southern) have been named MIAA Cross Country Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 10 as selected by a conference SID panel. The honor is Shank's third conference award of the year, while Hassaballa is a first-time winner this season.
 
MIAA MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Mujahid Hassaballa, Sr., Pittsburg State
Hassaballa led the Gorillas to a second-place finish at the GLVC vs. MIAA Challenge. The senior from Lawrence, Kan., finished third overall and was the top finisher of the four MIAA schools at the race. Hassaballa's 8K time of 24:36.8 was just two seconds off his best time of the season.

MIAA WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Kimi Shank, Sr., Missouri Southern
Shank finished the 5K course in a time of 17:42.1 to place second. Southern came into the meet ranked third nationally and first in the NCAA Division II South Central Region and defeated 13th-ranked Southern Indiana and 17th-ranked Pittsburg State. Shank, a senior from St. James, Mo., helped lead a dominant Lions' victory that saw the team place runners in second, third, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and 17th place.
