MIAA Hosts Inaugural Sand Volleyball Event

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Three MIAA institutions will play host to the first annual MIAA/NCAA Sand Volleyball Championship Saturday at Volleyball Beach in Kansas City, Mo.

While not an official MIAA TitleFest event, the sand volleyball tournament serves as another way to promote the MIAA and Division II in the Kansas City metro area. The event takes place in the midst of other MIAA spring championships that are considered part of MIAA TitleFest 2010.

NCAA Division II adopted legislation to establish sand volleyball as an emerging sport for women at the 2009 NCAA Convention. In January 2010, the Division II membership adopted additional legislation to set parameters for the sport.

MIAA members Central Missouri, Missouri Southern and Southwest Baptist will represent the league in the inaugural event, joined by Division II members Drury and Missouri S&T and Division I member Arkansas State from Jonesboro, Ark.

The sand volleyball championship is hosted by Volleyball Beach in south Kansas City, Martin City, Mo., to be specific. The facility is located just north of 135th and Holmes Road in Martin City.
