ESU Sweeps Student-Athlete of the Week Awards


KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Emporia State's Brittney Miller and Ting Liu have been named MIAA Volleyball Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 27-31 as selected by a conference SID panel. It is the fourth specialist of the week honor for Liu, while Miller is a first-time recipient of the hitter of the week award in 2009.

MIAA VOLLEYBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Brittney Miller, RH, Emporia State
Miller averaged 4.25 kills per set while hitting .368 for the week as the Hornets knocked off two opponents in the top 20. The junior from Paola, Kan., averaged 0.50 blocks per set and had 4.56 points peer set. Against No. 4 Central Missouri, Miller had 12 kills and three blocks as the Hornets knocked off the Jennies 3-2. She had a kill and two blocks as ESU raced out to an 8-1 lead in the first set. Miller had three kills and an assist in the final set as the Hornets as they closed out the win. Against No. 20 Nebraska-Omaha, she had a career-high 22 kills while hitting .588 against No. 20 Nebraska-Omaha on the road. Miller averaged 7.33 kills per set for the 3-0 sweep. She had seven kills in the Hornets' opening set 25-17 win. She had eight more kills along with one block and one assist in ESU's 25-20 win in the second set. She had seven kills including the final two as ESU closed out the sweep 26-24. Miller has double-figures in three straight matches for the Hornets and is hitting .314 for the season. ESU has won four straight, and two straight over teams ranked in the top 20.

MIAA VOLLEYBALL SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK
Ting Liu, S, Emporia State
Liu had two double-doubles on the week, averaging 11.62 assists per set, 3.62 digs per set and 1.38 kills per set as ESU knocked off two teams ranked in the top 20. Against No. 4 Central Missouri, the junior from Beijing, China, had 54 assists to go along with 13 digs in ESU's 3-2 win over the Jennies. Liu nearly had a triple double as she added seven kills and two blocks to a service ace. She served and had a kill and assists on the final two points as ESU won the second set 25-21. Liu served for three straight points to open the Hornets' final set win. Against No. 20 Nebraska-Omaha, she had her second double-double of the week with 39 digs, averaging 13.0 per set, while adding 16 digs and four kills. Liu also had two blocks and a service ace. Tied at 18 in the second set, she served for three straight points to give ESU the lead for good. She served for four straight points including an ace to open the final set. Liu had three straight double-doubles and five of her last six matches have been double-doubles. She has ten double-doubles on the season after only having ten all of last year.
