Cartagena, Myers Earn Player of the Week Awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Pamela Cartagena (Pittsburg State) and Emily Myers (Nebraska-Omaha) have been named MIAA Volleyball Players of the Week for the week of Sept. 9-12 as selected by a conference SID panel.

Cartagena was named Most Valuable Player of the UCM Peggy Martin Classic as she led the Gorillas to a 4-0 record in the tournament, including a conference-opening win over No. 8 Central Missouri. The senior from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, finished the weekend hitting at a .310 clip with 54 kills. Cartagena recorded double-doubles against Central Missouri (15 kills, 15 digs) and Missouri-St. Louis (20 kills, 18 digs). The 20 kills against Missouri-St. Louis marks the third time this season she has recorded 20 or more kills in a game. Cartagena averaged 4.50 kills and 3.92 digs per set. She also added three blocks and an ace and averaged 4.71 points per set. For the season, Cartagena averages 4.27 kills and 3.93 digs per set. Against Missouri-St. Louis, she recorded her 1,500th career kill, making her only the third player in PSU Volleyball history to record 1,500 or more kills. Cartagena is also now one of only two players in program history to have more than 1,500 kills and 1,500 digs in her career.

MIAA VOLLEYBALL SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK
Emily Myers, S, Nebraska-Omaha
Myers averaged 11.89 assists and 2.50 digs a set as she helped lead the Maverick offense to a .279 attack percentage in five matches last week. During the four matches of the UNO Volleyball Classic, Myers led the field with 12.54 assists per set and she led UNO's offense to a tournament-high .317 attack percentage. The sophomore from Modesto, Calif., had 51 assists at No. 9 Nebraska-Kearney on Wednesday and added 15 digs for a double-double as well as five kills for a .400 attack percentage in the match.
