Emporia State Sweeps Weekly Volleyball Awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Emporia State teammates Brianne Boner and Ting Liu have been named MIAA Volleyball Players of the Week for the week of Sept. 4-5 as selected by a conference SID panel.
 
MIAA VOLLEYBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Brianne Boner, MH, Emporia State
Boner had 49 kills on the weekend as she hit .481. The junior from Omaha, Neb., also had 15 blocks averaging 1.07 per set as she averaged 3.50 kills per set. Against Tarleton State, Boner had ten kills while hitting .533 for the match along with two blocks. She had two straight kills as ESU came back from down 6-2 to open set one. Against Midwestern State, she had 14 kills and three blocks as ESU earned the 3-1 win on the Mustangs home floor. Against Northwood, Boner had a team-high nine kills along with three blocks as ESU took advantage of 28 attack errors by NU to win 3-0. She had four of her nine kills in the first set. Against Central Oklahoma, Boner had a team-high 16 kills along with a team-high seven blocks as she was responsible for 21 Hornet points. She scored six points in the third set as she had three straight kills to help close out the 25-13 win for ESU.
 
MIAA VOLLEYBALL SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK
Ting Liu, S, Emporia State
Liu had 162 assists on the weekend, averaging 11.57 per set. The junior from Beijing, China, had 17 kills, averaging 1.21 per set. Liu had 28 digs and 11 blocks as she was named the MSU Invitational All-Tournament Team Setter. Against Tarleton State, she had 37 assists along with four kills, eight digs and a solo block. Against Midwestern State, Liu had a double-double for the set with 53 assists and 11 digs. She also added six kills, coming just four short of a triple-double, and three blocks. Liu hit .857 for the match on six of seven attacks. She added three service aces for ESU. Liu was involved in 64 of the Hornets' 91 points. She had two straight service aces and closed out with the final kill in the third set. Against Northwood, she had 25 assists along with two service aces. Against Central Oklahoma, Liu had 47 assists along with four blocks and four kills. She served for five straight points at one point during the final set. Liu now has 302 assists on the season, averaging 11.62 per set.
