Shank, Muyskens Earn Women’s T&F Awards
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kimi Shank (Missouri
Southern) and Kayla Muyskens (Central Missouri) have been named
MIAA Women's Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Week for the
week of April 12-18, as selected by a conference SID panel. Both
Shank and Muyskens pick up their third honor of the season.
MIAA WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kimi Shank, Sr., Missouri Southern
Shank, competing at the Mt. Sac Relays at Mt. San Antonio College,
finished fifth in the 10,000 meters, but was the top Division II
athlete in the event with an automatic time of 34:56.57. The senior
from St. James, Mo., broke her own previous record in the event
(35.43.93) that she set at last year's outdoor championships by 47
seconds.
MIAA WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kayla Muyskens, Jr., Central Missouri
Muyskens broke a pair of her school records at the Mule Relays set
only a week earlier (shot put and hammer). Her shot put mark (47-09
feet) gave her first place in the event and ranks first in the MIAA
and 5th in NCAA. The junior from Yale, Iowa, also won the discus
with a throw of 150-10 feet, which ranks second best in the MIAA
and 10th in the nation. Her hammer throw of 181-03 feet is an
automatic qualifier and ranks second in the MIAA as well as fourth
in the NCAA. Muyskens also won the hammer throw on Saturday at
William Jewell with a mark of 171-5 feet.
