Six Individual National Titles for MIAA Athletes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Nebraska-Omaha’s Anja Puc and Nkeiruka Domike, Pittsburg State’s Jeremy Jackson and Central Missouri’s Darius Walker all won individual national championships Saturday at the 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M., giving the MIAA six national champions for the meet.
 
Puc won the title in the women’s 800 meters, posting a time of 2:07.14 to score 10 points for Nebraska-Omaha.
 
Domike is the national champion in the women’s triple jump. She jumped 42-02.25 feet, over a foot longer than the runner-up. Domike also added 10 points for Omaha.
 
Nebraska-Omaha led MIAA women’s teams with 45 total points, earning the Mavericks a fourth-place finish. Missouri Southern (21.50 points) placed 10th, Fort Hays State (18) finished tied for 11th, Central Missouri (14) placed 13th, Truman (13) tied for 14th, Emporia State (11) tied for 18th, Pittsburg State (8) tied for 23rd, and Northwest Missouri (4) tied for 35th.
 
Jackson took home the men’s 60-meter hurdles championship, recording a time of 7.83 seconds, .02 seconds ahead of second place. Jackson netted 10 points for Pitt State.
 
Walker came out on top in the men’s heptathlon with 5,377 points, 142 points better than the runner-up. Walker’s performance earned 10 points for Central Missouri.
 
The Central men were the highest-finishing MIAA school, earning 37 points to tie for fourth. Pittsburg State was sixth with 31 points, Emporia State ninth with 15.50, Missouri Southern tied for 14th with 10, and Northwest Missouri tied for 20th with eight.
 
The four national titles Saturday are in addition to Truman’s Katrina Biermann (women's pole vault) and Fort Hays State’s Darcie Schmitz (women’s long jump) winning individual championships on Friday.
