Washburn Wins Women's Tennis Tournament Title
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- No. 2 seed Washburn defeated top seed Northwest Missouri 5-3 Sunday at Clayview Country Club to claim the 2010 MIAA Women's Tennis Tounament Championship.
The match was 4-3 in favor of Washburn as the No. 2 and No. 6 singles matches were both pushed into the third set, and the Lady Blues closed the deal as WU's Morgan Rainey outlasted NWMSU's Lisa Pendrak, 6-7, 6-1, 6-2.
Washburn won two of the three doubles matches, and three of five completed singles matches to win the title.
The Lady Blues' road to the championship went through No. 7 seed Fort Hays State, No. 6 seed Emporia State and finally No. 1 seed Northwest Missouri.
