Good Resigns as SBU's Director of Athletics

He steps down after four years as AD, seven years at university

BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Brent Good, who has been the director of athletics at Southwest Baptist University since April of 2005, will resign from the position effective July 2, it was announced Monday (June 8).

Good joined the staff at SBU as an assistant director of athletics in 2002, and became associate director of athletics two years later before assuming the AD position in 2005. He also has served as the compliance coordinator, marketing and promotions director, has overseen game day management, and has been the SBU facilities coordinator.

"After 32 years in college athletics, I believe it is time for me to pursue other opportunities," Good said in a statement released by the university. "I have always claimed Proverbs 3:5-6, 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.' I have prayed about my decision and I feel God has other plans for me."

During his tenure at the school, Good developed a corporate sponsorship program and reinstated the SBU Athletics Hall of Fame. He's also overseen improvement in graduation rates by the Bearcat student-athletes.

"I have enjoyed having Brent as a colleague and on the executive cabinet for the past four years," SBU President C. Pat Taylor said in a statement from the institution. "During the four years of Brent's leadership in athletics, we have had many significant accomplishments. We have developed and achieved goals for enrollment and improved academic progress and improved graduation rates for our student-athletes. Under Brent's leadership, the University has developed a strong corporate sponsorship program with many local businesses.

"Brent is respected for his faith, outstanding character, work ethic and integrity. I have enjoyed working with him during the past seven years, the last four years as athletic director and executive cabinet member. I will miss working with him on a daily basis."

Before coming to Southwest Baptist, he was at Arkansas Tech for 10 years -- first as an assistant football coach before moving into an administrative role as assistant director of athletics for internal affaris. He also has coached at his alma mater, James Madison (Va.), as well as Wingate (N.C.) and Bethany (Kan.).

The university announced that administrative duties will be divided between assistant athletics directors Dr. L. Renae Myles and Mike Pitts until a permanent successor is selected.
