KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dana Wilhelm scored a goal in the 87th minute to break a scoreless tie and give No. 3 seed Missouri Southern a 1-0 victory over Southwest Baptist in game one of 2011 MIAA Soccer Championship Thursday afternoon at Stanley H. Durwood Soccer Stadium on the campus of UMKC.
Missouri Southern (8-9-1) outshot Southwest Baptist 19-2 for the game, including 8-0 in shots on goal. The Lions had good looks at the goal on several occasions, but there was no score until Wilhelm's decisive kick, her third goal of the season.
Missouri Southern moves on to face No. 2 seed Truman Friday at 1 p.m. Southwest Baptist concludes its season with a 4-12-2 record.
