MIAA Soccer Notes: Week Two

Central Missouri
The Jennies took a 2-0 victory over Texas A&M-Commerce Sunday, Sept.4 in the 2011 home opener at Jennies Field in Warrensburg.  Sophomore Becky Lackey tallied both goals for Central Missouri.

In the first game of the 2011 season Thursday, Sept. 1 at Nebraska-Kearney, the Jennies took a 3-1 win over the Lopers.  Senior Alyssa Rhodes, freshman Nicki Wisnasky and junior Jenna Stones each had goals in the contest.

Central Missouri has out shot its opponents 25-9 in its first two matches.  The Jennies are averaging 12.5 shots per game while its opponents average only 4.5 per game.
 
Central Missouri hosts the Jennies Classic at Jennies Field this week.  Four games are on tap, beginning Thursday, September 8 with Washburn and Texas Woman’s at 4:30 then the Jennies and Dallas Baptist at 7 p.m.  Saturday’s games will feature Washburn and Dallas Baptist at noon then Central Missouri and Texas Woman’s at 2:30 p.m.
 
Emporia State
The Hornets will be meeting Northeastern State for the first time

ESU will be looking to win their home opener for the first time since 2006

ESU allowed only two goals in 210 minutes over the weekend

Fort Hays State
Margartet Meier scored the first goal in the history of Fort Hays women’s soccer, scoring on a header in a 1-0 win over Newman. The win was the first in FHSU’s short soccer history.

Goalkeeper Kelsey Grey posted a shutout in the Tigers’ first win in school history, beating Newman 1-0 at the newly dedicated FHSU Soccer Stadium.

FHSU travels this week to take on two RMAC opponents: Colorado Christian and UC-Colorado Springs.

Missouri Southern
Senior midfielder Shannon Kuhn scored the Lions’ lone goals in opening weekend play 3 minutes apart to bring the Lions back from a 2-0 deficit into a 2-2 tie.  Southern would eventually lose the match 3-2 to the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis.

Missouri Western
Head Coach Chad Edwards won his first game of his career.

Freshman K.C. Ramsell scored four goals in her first two career games.

Goalie Kelly Voigts recorded her first career shutout in just her second start.

Griffons start season 1-1 for four time since 2005.

Northwest Missouri
Last year Amanda Bundrant led the Bearcats with four goals in 16 games; however to open the 2011 season it took senior transfer Tammie Eiberger only two games to equal that total. Eiberger finished with a hat trick in a season opening loss to Texas A&M-Commerce before adding her fourth goal of the weekend in the Bearcats first win of the season against Wayne State.

Northwest continues non-conference action this weekend in Wichita against Friends University and Newman.

Southwest Baptist
SBU Goalkeeper, Megan Link, records her first shutout of the season during a 0-0 draw against Missouri S&T.

Truman
Truman women opened with a  1-1 weekend at the UNO Invite – falling to Midwestern State, 2-1, before beating Central Oklahoma, 2-1.

Jaclyn Schumann, Megan Buri and Olivia Hayes scored Truman’s three goals during the weekend. Schumann’s goal, a PK, was Truman’s first PK attempt since the 2009 season.

Hayes is now just one goal (19 career) away from reaching Truman’s all-time top-ten career goals scored.

The Bulldogs travel to San Antonio this weekend for matches against Incarnate Word (Friday) and #24 Abilene Christian (Sunday)

Washburn
It will be the first meeting between the Lady Blues and Dallas Baptist and Texas Woman's this weekend at the Jennies Classic.

Washburn is scoreless in three matches this season.

Washburn is 2-0 all-time in matches played during the Jennies Classic.
