MIAA Soccer Title on the Line Saturday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It all comes down to one game for the 2009 MIAA Soccer Championship. When Nebraska-Omaha plays at Central Missouri Saturday at 2 p.m. CT, the scenarios are simple: An Omaha win gives the Mavericks the MIAA title outright; A loss or tie by the Mavericks gives the championship to Truman. In no scenario will there be a tie atop the final standings.

With Truman's 2-0 victory over Emporia State Thursday in its final game of the regular season, the Bulldogs finish 13-2-1 in the conference with 40 points. With Thursday night's 2OT tie at Southwest Baptist, Nebraska-Omaha sits at 12-1-2 in the league with 38 points with one game to go. With three points awarded for a win and one for a tie (zero for a loss), Omaha must win or it will finish behind Truman.

Central Missouri has locked up third place in the MIAA, win, lose or draw Saturday. The Jennies can however improve their chances for a postseason berth with a win over Nebraska-Omaha as they were ranked No. 9 in the final regular season regional rankings with Omaha ranked at number four. Truman was No. 5 in the final regular season rankings. NCAA Championship selections will take place Monday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. CT via a webcast selection show on NCAA.com.

A release announcing the outcome of the MIAA Soccer Championship will be posted Sunday afternoon following the completion of all conference games.
