Juravich, Bamvakais Named Athletes of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Ashley Juravich (Missouri
Western) and Lauren Bamvakais (Central Missouri) have been named
MIAA Soccer Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 26-31
as selected by a conference SID panel. It is Bamvakais' third
defensive player of the week honor of the season and Juravich's
first offensive player of the week award of 2009.
MIAA SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ashley Juravich, F, Missouri Western
Juravich scored the first two goals of her career as she
helped the Griffons win two games last week. The freshman from
Godfrey, Ill., scored her first career goal in a 3-0 victory over
Emporia State. On Oct. 31 against Southwest Baptist, Juravich
scored the game-winning goal to give the Griffons the 1-0
victory.
MIAA SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lauren Bamvakais, GK, Central Missouri
Bamvakais played the entire 192-plus minutes in Central
Missouri's two games last week, recording a 2-0 record and shutting
out the opponents twice. The junior from St. Louis, Mo., saved
seven shots in the games. Bamvakais made a great jumping save
against SBU to push the ball over the net and keep the Bearcats out
of goal. She made five saves in the game, shutting out SBU 1-0.
Against TSU, Bamvakais only saw two shots as she saved both of
them, posting her ninth shutout of the season. She now has 21
shutouts in her career as a Jenny.
