UNO Sweeps Soccer Athlete of the Week Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Nebraska-Omaha teammates Nicole Baier and Lauren Fox have been named MIAA Soccer Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 21-24 as selected by a conference SID panel. It is Baier's fourth offensive player of the week award of the season (second in a row) and Fox's second defensive player of the week honor.
 
MIAA SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Baier scored four more goals and added an assist in both of UNO's wins last week. The redshirt freshman from Omaha, Neb., scored two goals, including the game winner against Washburn on Oct. 22 in the 34th minute. Baier scored her second goal of the game in the 54th minute. She assisted on Lindsey Nealon's goal in the 73rd minute, which came off a Baier corner kick. On Oct. 24 against the Bearcats, Baier netted both goals in the first eight minutes, including her sixth game winner of the season. She scored at 3:20 and 8:42 of the first half.  Baier has seven goals and two assists in her last three games. She now has 16 goals and 11 assists on the year. Baier is now tied for sixth with Beth McGill (2005), Anne Willrett (2004) and Amanda Iwansky (2005) for the most goals in a single season. Stephanie Kruse is UNO's single-season record holder with 24 goals in 2002.


MIAA SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lauren Fox, GK, Nebraska-Omaha
Fox improved her record in goal to 10-1-1 over the weekend and posted back-to-back shutouts in wins over Washburn and NW Missouri State. On Oct. 22 against WU, Fox made one save in UNO's 4-0 win. On Oct. 24 against NWMSU, she stopped six shots to help the Mavericks to a 2-0 win. The Beatrice, Neb., native now has a career high 6.6 shutouts on the year and matched her career high from last season with her 10th win of the year.
