Baier, Bamvakais Named Athletes of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Nicole Baier (Nebraska-Omaha) and Lauren Bamvakais (Central Missouri) have been named MIAA Soccer Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 15-18 as selected by a conference SID panel. It is Baier's third offensive player of the week award of the season and Bamvakais' second defensive player of the week honor.
 
MIAA SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nicole Baier, F, Nebraska-Omaha
Baier found the back of the net three times and added an assist in UNO's 4-1 win over Emporia State on Oct. 18. The redshirt freshman from Omaha, Neb., assisted on UNO's first goal of the game by Jessica Powers. Baier scored her first goal of the game in the 32nd minute. The goal proved to be the game winner, her fourth game winner of the season. Baier's second and third goals came in the 44th and 66th minutes. She now has 12 goals and 10 assists on the year. Baier becomes the fifth Maverick in school history to record two hat tricks in a season. On Oct. 15 against MWSU, Baier assisted on Jerica Kuncl's game-tying goal at 12:06 in the first half in UNO's 1-1 tie with the Griffons.

MIAA SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lauren Bamvakais, GK, Central Missouri
Bamvakais played the entire 180 minutes in goal for the Jennies this week, allowing two goals and recording three saves. The junior from St, Louis, Mo., also posted her sixth shutout of the season. Against Truman, Bamvakais posted one save while allowing the two goals in the 2-1 loss. Against MSSU, she recorded two saves in the 4-0 shutout.
