Powers, Lazenby Earn Weekly Soccer Awards
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Jessica Powers
(Nebraska-Omaha) and Kira Lazenby (Northwest Missouri) have been
named MIAA Soccer Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct.
8-11 as selected by a conference SID panel. Powers has now won two
MIAA weekly honors this season, in consecutive weeks, and Lazenby
is also a second-time honoree in 2009.
MIAA SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jessica Powers, F, Nebraska-Omaha
Powers compiled six points in two games for
Nebraska-Omaha in wins over Emporia State and Washburn. On Oct. 8
in UNO's 5-0 win over ESU, the senior from Bellevue, Neb., netted a
goal and added three assists in the game including a helper on the
game-winning goal by Jerica Kuncl in the 18th minute. With her
three assists, Powers becomes the 11th Maverick in school history
to reach the mark in a single game. She put Omaha up 4-0 with her
seventh goal of the year in the 68th minute against the Hornets. On
Oct. 11, Powers assisted on another game winning goal by Kuncl in
UNO's 1-0 win over the Lady Blues.
MIAA SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kira Lazenby, GK, Northwest Missouri
Lazenby added two shutouts to her Northwest Missouri
program record, which is now 15 career shutouts (32 career games).
The senior from Payson, Utah, earned her first assist as a Bearcat
in the win against Washburn.
