Powers, Grisham Named Athletes of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Jessica Powers (Nebraska-Omaha) and Jayne Grisham (Truman) have been named MIAA Soccer Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 3 as selected by a conference SID panel. Grisham has now won two MIAA weekly honors this season, in consecutive weeks, while Powers is a first-time honoree in 2009.

MIAA SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jessica Powers, F, Nebraska-Omaha
Powers scored a pair of goals in Nebraska-Omaha's 3-0 win against Southwest Baptist Thursday. Her first goal came at 6:29 in the game and proved to be the game-winner. The senior from Bellevue, Neb., later scored another, UNO's third of the match, in the 74th minute, less than 60 seconds after UNO scored its second goal. Powers took four shots in the game and put three on goal.

MIAA SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jayne Grisham, GK, Truman
Grisham posted back-to-back shutouts, her fifth and sixth solo shutouts of the season, in a pair of Truman road wins this week. The sophomore from Bridgeton, Mo., stopped six Missouri Western shots in helping Truman pick up a 1-0 double-overtime win in St. Joseph, Mo., Thursday night before turning away four Southwest Baptist attempts Saturday in a 4-0 Truman win. With her nearly 200 minutes of shutout action this past week, Grisham lowered her season-long GAA to 0.66, having allowed just eight goals in nearly 1,100 minutes in net. She has been a part of eight team shutouts, sharing time in two.
