Talley, Grisham Garner MIAA Soccer Honors

Leah Talley (left) and Jayne Grisham
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Leah Talley (Washburn) and
Jayne Grisham (Truman) have been selected as MIAA Soccer
Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 24-26 as
selected by a conference SID panel. Both Talley and Grisham are
first-time weekly honorees this season.
MIAA SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Leah Talley, MF, Washburn
Talley came off the bench in both matches during the
week. Against Southwest Baptist, the freshman from Wichita, Kan.,
recorded the fourth hat trick in school history, including the
match winner in the 86th minute in a 4-3 win over SBU. Talley
recorded the first Lady Blues hat trick since Danielle Ayala
recorded one against Missouri Western on Oct. 19, 2007. Jessica
Mainz owns the other two school hat tricks. Talley knotted the
score at 1-1 in the 33rd minute of the match against SBU, put
Washburn up 3-2 at the 73:33 mark of the match, and her
match-winner came at the 85:12 mark, beating SBU goalkeeper Megan
Link for the go-ahead goal.
MIAA SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jayne Grisham, GK, Truman
Grisham recorded her fourth shutout of the season in a
1-0 shutout of UNO to help Truman move into first place in the MIAA
standings. The sophomore from Bridgeton, Mo., also worked 68
minutes of scoreless action in a 4-0 win against MSSU before being
given the rest of the game off. On the season, Grisham has a 0.80
GAA and has been a part of six shutouts (she has shared minutes
with Allison Taylor in two of those shutouts). Grisham has also
been a stalwart in net, as Truman has four straight team shutouts -
a mark that the Truman program hasn't achieved since 2007.
