UNO Women Seventh After Opening Round at Golf Regional

Mavs 10 shots out of lead; Ommen tied for third with 77
OMAHA, Neb. -- Junior Erin Ommen shot a team-best 77 to lead the Nebraska-Omaha golf team on the first day of the NCAA Division II West Regional at Ironwood Golf and Country Club Monday (May 4).

Ommen, the MIAA Tournament champion, was in a three-way tie for third overall as the Mavericks held down seventh place in the nine-team tournament with a 328.
Tarleton (Texas) State leads the regional with a team score of 318. West Texas A&M, Western Washington and California State-Monterey Bay are in a three-way tie for second with scores of 324.
Raelyn Smith, playing as a medalist for Angelo (Texas) State, shot the low round of the day with a 73. Carla Cooper of Tarleton State was second overall with a score of 74. Ommen was tied for third with Raelynn Farthing of Central Oklahoma and Kaitlin Parker of Western Washington.
Farthing had the highlight of the day when she aced the 137-yard second hole.
Sophomore Dani Suponchick carded an 82 for UNO, while sophomore Amy Powell finished with an 84. Freshman Rebecca Pollock shot an 85 while Abbey Weddle ended up with an 86.
The top three teams and top three individuals not playing for those teams will advance to the national championship in Findlay, Ohio, May 13-16.
Round two begins Tuesday (May 5) at 8:30 a.m., CDT. UNO golfers will tee off between 8:48 and 9:24 a.m.
