MIAA Announces Women's Tournament Bracket

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Regular season action is complete and the bracket is set for the MIAA Women's Basketball Championship March 4, 6, and 7 at Municipal Auditorium.

Washburn, the MIAA regular season champion and No. 1 seed in the tournament, will face No. 8 seed Southwest Baptist Thursday at noon in the first round. The Lady Blues swept the Bearcats in the regular season, winning 88-67 in Bolivar and 77-68 in Topeka.

Emporia State is the No. 2 seed and will play No. 7 Fort Hays State, the team it beat 87-80 Sunday in Hays in the regular season finale, at 6 p.m. Thursday in Kansas City. The Lady Hornets also won at home against the Tigers earlier in the year, 88-67.

No. 3 Central Missouri will take on No. 6 Missouri Southern in the first round Thursday at 8:15 p.m. The Jennies and the Lions split the season series with Central winning 71-58 in Warrensburg and Southern winning 61-59 in Joplin.

The No. 4 seed Pittsburg State will match up with No. 5 Northwest Missouri Thursday at 2:15 p.m. in first round action. The Gorillas swept the season series between the two, winning 79-68 in Maryville and 106-102 in two overtimes in Pittsburg.
