ESU's Campbell Named National Player of the Year
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Emporia State senior third baseman Miranda Campbell was named the Ron Lenz National Player of the Year to headline the 2010 Daktronics, Inc., All-America softball team released Wednesday. The squad is voted on by sports information directors in NCAA Division II.
Campbell ranks among the top six in the nation in hitting (.490), slugging percentage (.903) and on-base percentage (Division II-best .627), as she reached base 135 times during the season for the MIAA champion Hornets. She also had 14 home runs – which included a grand slam in the MIAA title game – drove in 69 and stole 20 bases. Campbell was also named to the All-America First Team.
Joining Campbell on the first team is Nebraska-Omaha utility player Lindsey Slocum. Slocum hit .371 with 12 homers and 61 RBI at the plate and posted a 21-3 pitching record with a 1.95 ERA and just over a strikeout per inning pitched.
The 10 position players on the first team have combined to hit .441 with a total of 118 home runs among its 800 hits and 612 runs batted in. The three pitchers have a combined record of 115-9 with an earned run average of 0.78 and 737 strikeouts in 801 innings of work.
Northwest Missouri designated player Erin Leslie was an honorable mention All-America selection.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
