UNO Falls Short Against West Texas A&M
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (UNO Media Relations) -- Julia Krejci hit a grand slam Sunday but it wasn't enough as Nebraska-Omaha fell, 6-4 to West Texas A&M in the elimination final of the NCAA South Central Region I tournament. No. 21 UNO finishes the year 50-13.
Down 6-0 in the top of the fifth, Molly Feichtinger and Lindsey Slocum singled. Kristi Meneely then walked to load the bases. Krejci then lifted the ball over the left field fence for her ninth home run of the year and UNO's third grand slam.
Now down by two, the Mavericks put two on base in the sixth as Katelyn Hinton and Slocum each singled. Meneely then lined out to third to end the inning and in the top of the seventh with two on base, Hinton hit a sharp liner to shortstop that was caught to end the game.
The Mavs got nine hits and left 11 runners on base. The Lady Buffs got seven hits and stranded just three.
The Lady Buffs built a big lead off Slocum, the Mavericks' starter. She allowed all six runs, five earned, off five hits with four strikeouts and a walk. She ended the year 21-3.
WTAMU advanced to play Midwestern State in the region championship round Sunday.
