Emporia State Advances to Regional Title Game

EMPORIA, Kan. (ESU Media Relations) -- Angela Mahan went four for four to lead No. 11 Emporia State to a 7-0 win over Texas Woman's and advance to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championship Game.

Jenna Potter led off the third inning for ESU with a single and scored on Mahan's single. Mahan went to second on the throw adn then advanced to third on a wild pitch. She would score on Jessica Brewer's single. Miranda Campbell and Amanda Self both walked to load the bases and Abby Smith singled off the pitcher to scored Brewer.

Linda Ketter made it 4-0 with a home run in the fourth and Campbell's school record setting 20th double of the season scored Brewer and Abby Hughes to give the Hornets a 6-0 lead. Ketter scored her second run of the game to make it 7-0 in the sixth inning on Hughes fielder's choice ground out.

Jennifer Heerey went the distance in the circle for ESU, scattering five hits with three walks and six strike outs on the way to her fourth shut out of the season.

The Hornets will take on #19 Angelo State on Sunday at 12 noon, weather permitting. ESU will need to win twice against ASU to advance to the Super Regional the next weekend against the winner of the Wichita Falls, Texas Regional.
