Nebraska-Omaha Stalled in Second Round Game

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (UNO Media Relations) -- All three Nebraska-Omaha pitchers gave up runs and the UNO offense scored just once off five hits in a 9-1 loss to fifth-ranked Midwestern State in the second round of the NCAA tournament Saturday. The 21st-ranked Mavericks dropped to Sunday's 11 a.m. elimination final against West Texas A&M. The winner of that game will advance to play MSU at 1:30 p.m. and must beat the host Mustangs twice.

Starter Melissa Negrete allowed three runs off four hits before recording an out in the first inning. Lindsey Slocum then allowed four runs over the first three innings and Beth Haley closed out the game, allowing two runs in the final two innings. The Mustangs finished with 11 hits as they envoked the run rule after five innings.

Already down 7-0 in the fourth inning, the Mavs (50-12) put together their best threat. With two on, Emma Wright singled to drive in Julia Krejci. Alli Hukill then struck out swinging to end the inning.

West Texas A&M beat St. Mary's (Texas), 5-0 in an elimination game Saturday to advance to play UNO Sunday.
