Slocum, Mahan Earn Weekly Softball Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lindsey Slocum (Nebraska-Omaha) and Angela Mahan (Emporia State) have been named MIAA Softball Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 20-25, as selected by a conference SID panel. Slocum earns at least a share of both weekly awards for the second time this season (four overall honors), and Mahan picks up her first award of 2010.

MIAA SOFTBALL HITTERS OF THE WEEK
Angela Mahan, 2B, Emporia State
Mahan went five-for-eight with four RBIs and four runs scored in Emporia State's doubleheader sweep at Central Missouri as ESU improved to 14-0 in MIAA play. The junior from Liberty, Mo., led off game one with a single and scored the first run of the game on a ground out to give ESU a 1-0 lead. She came up in the second with two outs and two on and hit a three-run homer to give the Hornets a 5-1 lead. Mahan had an RBI single and later scored in the sixth to give ESU a 7-1 lead. She was three-for-four with four RBIs and three runs in the Hornets' 7-2 win in the matinee. She scored or drove in six of ESU's seven runs in the game. In the nightcap, Mahan went two-for-four with a run scored in the Hornets' 4-3 win. She led off the third with a single and later scored the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded hit by pitch. Mahan has hit safely in five of the last six games, with multiple hits in four of those games. After opening the season hitless in her first 11 at bats, she is hitting .395 over the last 46 games.

Lindsey Slocum, LHP/CF, Nebraska-Omaha
Slocum once again backed up a solid week pitching with a strong effort at the plate. The junior from Omaha, Neb., batted .500 (6-for-12), drove in four and scored six runs. She had at least one hit and one run in each game. While nearly throwing a perfect game in the nightcap Saturday against Truman, Slocum went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run. Tuesday against Wayne State, she went 2-for-3 with a home run.

MIAA SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Lindsey Slocum, LHP/CF, Nebraska-Omaha
Slocum nearly threw her second perfect game of the year last week. The junior from Omaha, Neb., ended the week 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. Saturday at Truman, she started game two and faced the minimum 15 batters as the Mavericks envoked the run rule after five innings. On an 0-2 count, she allowed a leadoff single in the first inning, and then that base runner was thrown out trying to steal second. That hit was the only thing that kept her from a perfect game, as she retired the next 14 batters in order. Aside from the single up the middle of the infield, no other ball reached the outfield. Tuesday against No. 24 Wayne State (Neb.), Slocum gave up one unearned run, struck out six and walked just one.
