McGovern, Siler Earn MIAA Weekly Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Adam McGovern (Emporia
State) and Ashley Siler (Missouri Southern) have been named MIAA
Cross Country Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 2-3
as selected by a conference SID panel. McGovern and Siler both earn
the honor for the first time this season.
MIAA MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Adam McGovern, So., Emporia State
McGovern placed third at the ESU Planet Sub Invitational
with an 8K time of 25:36.15. The sophomore from Lee's Summit, Mo.,
was the top collegiate finisher and led ESU to its third straight
team title at Planet Sub Invitational. McGovern ran a personal-best
time for an 8K despite winds of between 20 and 40 mph during the
race. He became the first person other than Skyler Delmott to lead
ESU in a meet in which ESU scored as a team since the 2004 South
Central Regional. ESU won team title, defeating MIAA member NWMSU
(ranked 9th in the South Central Region) and Johnson County CC
(ranked 9th in the NJCAA National Poll).
MIAA WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Ashley Siler, Fr., Missouri Southern
Siler finished in 11th place at the Oklahoma State Cowboy
Jamboree. The freshman from Granby, Mo., finished the 5K course in
a time of 17:46.50 and was the second-highest finishing Division II
runner. Siler helped the Lions, who came in to the meet ranked
seventh nationally, finish fifth overall. Southern was the top
Division II scoring team, taking out No. 1 ranked Adams State, No.
11 ranked Western State, and No. 18 ranked Pittsburg State in the
process.
