Five MIAA Teams in Top 10 at NCAA Outdoors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three MIAA men's teams finished in the top 10, and three women's squads finished in the top 11 at the 2011 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium in Turlock, Calif.

Lincoln led all MIAA men's teams with a third-place finish, just ahead of fourth-place Emporia State. Central Missouri finished eighth, followed by Fort Hays State in a tie for 16th, Pittsburg State in 24th and Northwest Missouri in a tie for 38th.

Lincoln was also the high MIAA finisher on the women's side, placing second behind champion Grand Valley State. Central Missouri tied for sixth, Pittsburg State finished 11th, Nebraska Omaha tied for 20th, Fort Hays State tied for 35th, Southwest Baptist tied for 40th, Truman tied for 50th and Emporia State tied for 55th to round out MIAA schools.

On the final day of the championships, the MIAA produced seven national champions and 42 All-Americans, including 16 top-three finishers.

Emporia State's Andrew Etheridge took home the national championship in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.02. Northwest Missouri's Tyler Shaw placed third after clocking a time of 14.06.

Lincoln swept the national championships in the men's and women's 4x100-meter relays. The LU women's 4x1 took the title with a time of 44.57, while the Blue Tiger men's 4x1 placed first with a time of 39.92. The Emporia State men finished third with a time of 40.70.

Lincoln had the top two spots in both the men's and women's 400-meter hurdles. Steve Banton won the men's national championship with a time of 51.96, while teammate Roxroy Cato finished as the runner-up after clocking in at 52.10. LU's Yanique Haye was crowned the women's national champion after posting a time of 59.16, while fellow Blue Tiger Michelle Cumberbatch took second with a time of 59.62.

Kimour Bruce of Lincoln took home the national championship in the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.15, followed by Emporia State's Josh Schuler in second with a time of 10.26. Schuler added another national runner-up and All-America honor in the men's 200 meters after recording a time of 20.75.

Lincoln's Judith Riley gave the blue Tigers a 100-meter sweep by taking the national title in the women's 100 meters with a time of 11.42.

LU's women's 4x400-meter relay squad finished as the runners-up after clocking in at 3:42.43.

Pittsburg State's Larissa Richards was also a national runner-up, placing second in the women's discus with a throw of 159-10 feet. PSU teammate Gretchen Clark placed third in the women's high jump with a leap of 5-6 feet.

In the men's 400 meters, Lincoln's Dane Hyatt took third with a time of 46.96.
