Allen, Jewett Earn Regional Track & Field Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Pittsburg State senior thrower Brian Allen and head coach Russ Jewett have been named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Central Region Athlete and Coach of the Year, respectfully, for the 2010 Division II Outdoor Track & Field season. The awards were voted on by the division's coaches.

Allen was named the South Central Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year. He holds the country's best mark in the shot put with a throw of 16-9 3/4, and is also seeded third in the discus and fourth in the hammer throw. Allen earned MIAA titles in the shot put and discus and was the conference runner-up in the hammer.

Jewett, in his 24th season at the helm of the Pittsburg State track & field program, was named the South Central Region Men's Head Coach of the Year. He guided the Gorillas to an MIAA runner-up finish, and the team is currently ranked fourth in the nation heading into the NCAA Championships.

The 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set to begin Thursday in Charlotte, N.C.
