Walker, Lettow Claim Multi-Event Championships

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Missouri’s Darius Walker and Lindsay Lettow won the decathlon and heptathlon, respectfully, Monday at the 2010 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Multi-Event Championships at Fred G. Hughes Stadium in Joplin, Mo.

Walker, the day one leader of the decathlon, finished with a score of 7,041 to claim the championship. He had the high score in the 100 meters, long jump, 400 meters and 110-meter hurdles. Walker defeated runner-up Craig Saalfield of Emporia State (6,888) by 153 points. Central Missouri teammates Brent Vogel and Shawn Boss were third and fourth, respectfully, followed by Pittsburg State’s Joe Stephens in fifth place.
 
Lettow, also the day one leader in the heptathlon, earned the title after posting a score of 5,167. She recorded the high score in the 100-meter hurdles and 200 meters. Lettow finished 76 points ahead of Northwest Missouri’s Emily Churchman, the runner-up. Angela Selby of Central Missouri placed third, followed by Fort Hays State’s Carissa Heim in fourth and Johanna Avilez of Northwest Missouri in fifth.
 
With the multi-event championships complete, the 2010 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set to take place this weekend, May 8-9, at Prentice Gudgen Track in Pittsburg, Kan.
