Patton, McKim Earn Men's T&F Weekly Awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jordan Patton (Missouri Southern) and Ben McKim (Northwest Missouri) have been named MIAA Men's Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 19-25, as selected by a conference SID panel. Patton and McKim are both first-time honorees in 2010.

MIAA MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jordan Patton, Sr., Missouri Southern
Patton had wins and provisionals in both the 100 meters and 200 meters at the MSSU-Laptad/Williams Invite, and helped Southern's 4x100-meter relay team set a school record. In the 100 meters, the senior from Jasper, Texas, won the event with a provisional time of 10.53 and ranks second in the MIAA and ninth nationally. In the 200 meters, he won the event with a provisional time of 21.44 that ranks third in the MIAA and 18th nationally. In the 4x100-meter relay, Patton ran the second leg of the event and separated from the pack, leading the Lions to a win by more than three seconds. The time is a new school record by nearly a second and ranks ninth nationally and first in the MIAA.

MIAA MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Ben McKim, Sr., Northwest Missouri
McKim placed second out of 32 competitors in the hammer throw at Simpson's Kip Janvrin, recording a provisional mark of 183 feet. The only person ahead of him was a Division I athlete. The senior from Maryville, Mo., also finished second (behind a Division I athlete) in the discus with a throw of 152-10 feet. At Baker's Wildcat Open, McKim won the shot put championship with an automatic-qualifying throw of 59-09 feet, the third-best mark in the nation and third-best in Northwest Missouri history. He also won the title in the hammer throw with a provisional-qualifying throw of 182-02 feet. In the discus, he placed second with a provisional-qualifying mark of 160-08 feet. In all, McKim had one automatic-qualifying mark and three provisional-qualifying marks in five competitions during the week.
