PSU Sweeps Men's Track & Field Weekly Awards
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Pittsburg State's Jeremy Jackson and Kiara Jones have been named MIAA Men's Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 5-11, as selected by a conference SID panel. It is Jackson's third student-athlete of the week honor this season, and the second award of 2010 for Jones.
MIAA MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jeremy Jackson, Sr., Pittsburg State
Jackson turned in the fastest time in Division II with his winning
performance in the 110-meter hurdles at the 2nd Annual Gorilla
Classic Saturday. The Burton, Texas, native was clocked in a
track-record time of 13.95 seconds, his all-time personal-best
effort. Jackson added a third-place showing in the 200 meters
(21.76) in the meet as well.
MIAA MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kiara Jones, Jr., Pittsburg State
Jones logged a pair of all-time personal bests in the horizontal
jumps at the 2nd Annual Gorilla Classic Saturday. The Pensacola,
Fla., native who completed his prep career at Pittsburg High
School, broke his own stadium and school records in the triple jump
with a winning mark of 52-2 feet Saturday. The mark currently ranks
third in Division II. He also added an all-time PR jump of 24-1.75
feet in winning the long jump. That mark currently ranks fourth
nationally.
