Pitt State Sweeps Men's Track & Field Honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Pittsburg State teammates
Jeremy Jackson and Kiara Jones have been named MIAA Men's Track
& Field Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 8-14
as selected by a conference SID panel. Jackson and Jones are both
first-time honorees this season.
MIAA MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jeremy Jackson, Sr., Pittsburg State
Jackson raced to victory in the 55-meter hurdles at the
Pitt State Invitational Friday. The Burton, Texas, native was
clocked in 7.39 seconds. His mark converts to 7.92 seconds at the
60-meter distance, his season-best effort and the fastest time in
NCAA Division II to date. Jackson also added a third-place
performance in the 55 meters (6.43) Friday.
MIAA MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kiara Jones, Jr., Pittsburg State
Jones set a new John Lance Arena and bettered his own
Pitt State indoor record in the triple jump with a leap of 51 feet,
1.75 inches at the Pitt State Invitational Friday. The Pensacola,
Fla., native who completed his prep career at Pittsburg High School
improved his automatic-qualifying status in the discipline. Jones
has the second-best mark in the MIAA and the third-best distance in
NCAA Division II to date. He also added a second-place effort of
22-11 in the long jump at the meet, an indoor personal-best
mark.
