Allen, Jewett Earn Regional Track & Field Honors
Pittsburg State senior thrower Brian Allen and head coach Russ Jewett have been named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Central Region Athlete and Coach of the Year, respectfully, for the 2010 Division II Outdoor Track & Field season. The awards were voted on by the division’s coaches.

MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Awards Announced
One hundred and nine student-athletes earned All-MIAA honors in the sport of outdoor track & field, the league office announced Monday. All-conference honors are awarded to those student-athletes who finish in the top three in individual or relay events at the conference championship meet.

Central Missouri men’s track & field co-head coaches Kip Janvrin and Kirk Pedersen and Nebraska-Omaha women’s track & field head coach Steve Smith were named 2010 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Coaches of the Year, the league office announced.

UCM Claims MIAA Men's Outdoor Championship
The University of Central Missouri claimed its fifth straight MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship Sunday at Carnie Smith Stadium/Prentice Gudgen Track. The Mules scored a meet-high 190 points to win their fifth straight title and their eighth league crown in the last nine years. The host school, Pittsburg State University, finished second with 172 points, while Emporia State University placed third in the team standings with 141 points.

During his days running the hurdles at Lee’s Summit North, Darius Walker never glanced at the throwers. He might have zoomed right past them without seeing them. Walker was so fast that he won Missouri state titles in the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.

It is the second student-athlete of the week award this season for Walker, and the first for Glassmaker.

Pittsburg State senior Jeremy Jackson is enjoying spring break this week. It’s the perfect time for him to relax and take a few days off. Jackson is coming off a career-defining moment. He won the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division II National Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Saturday.

Six Individual National Titles for MIAA Athletes
Nebraska-Omaha’s Anja Puc and Nkeiruka Domike, Pittsburg State’s Jeremy Jackson and Central Missouri’s Darius Walker all won individual national championships Saturday at the 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M., giving the MIAA six national champions for the meet.

Jackson, Frizzell Win Men’s T&F Weekly Awards
Jeremy Jackson (Pittsburg State) and Drew Frizzell (Central Missouri) have been named MIAA Men's Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 15-21 as selected by a conference SID panel. Jackson is the track athlete of the week for the second consecutive week and second time overall this season, and Frizzell is the field athlete of the week for the third time in 2010.

Frizzell Takes Road Less Traveled to Stardom
After Drew Frizzell completed his redshirt freshman season in the throws at Central Missouri, he headed off to the Air National Guard reserves for training. It was the summer of 2008 and Frizzell believed the 30 pounds he dropped after track and field season was enough for basic training.

Schuler Rewriting Emporia State Record Book
Three times a week during the fall semester, classes prevent junior Josh Schuler from joining his Emporia State teammates at the start of track practice. By the time Schuler arrived, his teammates were at the tail end of practice. Instead of clocking out with half a workout, Schuler stayed and put in his time with the coaches.
