Northwest Sweeps First MIAA Tennis Awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Northwest Missouri’s Malcolm Harrison and Veronica Castilla have been named MIAA Tennis Student-Athletes of the Week for play from the beginning of the season through March 21 as selected by a conference SID panel. Harrison and Castilla are the first honorees of the 2010 season.
 
MIAA MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Malcolm Harrison, Jr., Northwest Missouri
Harrison is 10-0 in singles play and 8-2 in doubles play against competition that includes five nationally-ranked Division II teams and Division I Missouri-Kansas City. The junior from Kansas City, Mo., has dropped one set in winning 10 straight singles matches. Northwest is ranked No. 26 nationally and has three wins against nationally-ranked foes.

MIAA WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Veronica Castilla, Sr., Northwest Missouri
Castilla is 6-2 in singles play and 5-2 in doubles play through nine matches. The senior from Puertollano, Spain, scored the team’s lone point in a loss to 14th-ranked St. Edward’s. Two of her four losses came against No. 27 Central Oklahoma in the season opener.
