Central Missouri Claims MSSU Invitational Title

Final Results

JOPLIN, Mo. – Central Missouri fired a final-round team score of 294 (+6) to come back from sixth place to claim the championship by one stroke Tuesday at the MSSU Spring Invitational. The Mules finished with a two-day total of 604 (+28) at Twin Hills Country Club, edging second-place Northeastern State’s 605 (+29).
 
Central Missouri’s Justin Yoder was the highest finishing MIAA individual, leading the Mules with a two-day score of 147 (+3) to place third overall, two shots behind individual medalist Ben Claussen of Southwestern Oklahoma State.
 
Southwest Baptist was second among MIAA schools, coming in fourth place with a total score of 614 (+38). Fort Hays State was next in fifth with a score of 617 (+41), followed by Missouri Southern in sixth (618, +42), Truman in seventh (621, +45) and Washburn in eighth (625, +49). Missouri Western was next in line amongst MIAA schools in 10th with a two-day total of 635 (+59), and Pittsburg State was 11th at 636 (+60). Missouri Southern’s “B” team placed 12th with a score of 640 (+64).
 
Central Missouri has now won each of the three MIAA scoring events, two in the fall and the MSSU Spring Invitational this week. The Mules have accumulated 24 points in the conference standings, six better than second-place Missouri Southern (18). Washburn is in third place with 16 points, followed by Southwest Baptist in fourth with 14 points, Fort Hays State in fifth with 12 points, Missouri Western in sixth with 11 points, Truman in seventh with eight points and Pittsburg State in eighth with five points.
 
The MIAA Championship, as well as the MIAA Tournament Championship, will be on the line next Monday and Tuesday, April 19-20, at the 2010 MIAA Golf Championship at Tiffany Greens Golf Club in Kansas City, Mo. The MIAA Tournament counts double in the championship race.
