WU golfer chosen to second team, Truman netter on third team
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Two MIAA student-athletes were selected to the ESPN The Magazine College Division Men's At-Large Academic All-America Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which was released Tuesday (June 9).
Washburn senior golfer Matt Ewald was honored on the second team, while Truman junior tennis player Peter Bracha was chosen to the third team.

Ewald, a native of Leawood, Kan., spent much of his senior season ranked as the No. 1 golfer in NCAA Division II and earned PING All-American honors. Ewald, with a 3.40 grade-point average as an accounting major, is the first Ichabod golfer since Chris McGown following the 2005 season to be named to the team announced by CoSIDA.
Ewald finished in a tie for 14th at the NCAA Division II National Championships and earned All-MIAA honors for the fourth time in his career. He recorded a career stroke average at Washburn of 73.1, finished in the top five of 25 career tournaments and had 43 top-20 finishes.

Bracha, from Ames, Iowa, carries a 4.00 GPA as a biology major at Truman. He had a combined record of 17-10 in singles and doubles during 2009, while playing No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles for the Bulldogs.
Bracha earned his third consecutive honorable mention All-MIAA award for doubles this past year with partner Steven Hipkiss.
The Men's At-Large program for the Academic All-America includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis and water polo. College Division of CoSIDA encompasses all NCAA Division II and III members, as well as NAIA, junior college and Canadian institutions.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his or her sports information director.
