Watts, Boston Tabbed MIAA Athletes of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Sanijay Watts (Central Missouri) and Cassondra Boston (Emporia State) have been named MIAA Basketball Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 10-13 as selected by a conference SID panel. Watts and Boston both have a MIAA-leading four student-athlete of the week awards this season.
 
MIAA MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sanijay Watts, F, Central Missouri
Watts led the Mules to a 2-0 record on the road this week with a 74-64 win at Washburn and a 79-63 win in front of 6,210 fans at No. 10 Fort Hays State. The senior from St. Louis, Mo., averaged 23.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per game while hitting 63.0 percent from the floor. His 30-point, 17-rebound performance at Fort Hays State helped give the Mules a two-game lead in the MIAA. The 17 boards by Watts was the most in the Kim Anderson era at Central Missouri. Against Washburn, he tallied 17 points and pulled down nine off the glass.

MIAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cassondra Boston, G, Emporia State
Boston averaged 27.5 points per game as Emporia State moved to 22-2 on the season. The senior from Des Moines, Iowa, had her first career double-double with 33 points and 10 assists in the Hornets' 103-90 win over SBU. Boston also had a team-high six rebounds against the Bearcats. She scored or assisted on 11 of ESU's first 13 points against SBU. She scored the final nine points of an 11-2 run that gave ESU a 50-42 lead with 3:32 left in the first half. Boston finished the week with a game-high 22 points in the Lady Hornets' 97-54 win over MSSU. She capped a 13-0 run with a three-pointer to give ESU a 31-16 lead with 8:48 left in the first half, and the lead would not drop below double digits the rest of the game. Boston became the fifth Lady Hornet to pass the 1,600-point mark and is the only Lady Hornet with 1,600 career points and 400 career assists. With three regular season games left, she has already moved into sixth place in single-season three-pointers made at ESU with 66.
