Watts, Boston Win Weekly Basketball Awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Sanijay Watts (Central Missouri) and Cassondra Boston (Emporia State) have been named MIAA Basketball Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 27-30 as selected by a conference SID panel. Boston is honored for the second consecutive week and third time this season, while Watts also picks up his third weekly award of 2009-10.
 
MIAA MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sanijay Watts, F, Central Missouri
Watts led Central Missouri to a 2-0 record this week and into first place in the MIAA with a 91-82 win at Missouri Southern and a 72-61 win against Pittsburg State. Against MSSU, he scored a game-high 26 points and had 13 rebounds. The senior from St. Louis, Mo., then recorded 22 points and a career-high 15 boards against the Gorillas on Saturday. For the week, Watts averaged 24.0 points and 14.0 boards per game. He also hit 72.0 percent from the field and 75.0 percent from the free throw line.

MIAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cassondra Boston, G, Emporia State
Boston led No. 5 Emporia State to its league-leading 13th and 14th straight wins. The senior from Des Moines, Iowa, scored a season-high 28 points on a MIAA season-best 8-of-11 from behind the arc in ESU's 110-68 win over Missouri Western. Boston passed former Lady Hornets Pam Bulson and Nicole Patry to move into sixth on the ESU all-time scoring list. Boston also had six rebounds and five assists against MWSU. She had a career-high two blocked shots against the Griffons as well. Boston had a game-high four assists in Emporia State's 76-60 win at Truman as six Lady Hornets scored between nine and 11 points in Kirksville.
