Czerniewski Leads Central Missouri Past SBU
BOLIVAR, Mo. (UCM Media Relations) -- The 2010 season opened in record-setting fashion for the Mules with a 60-13 victory over Southwest Baptist University Saturday night.
Eric Czerniewski threw for a school record 435 yards, while breaking his own school mark with 37 completions, and a career-high five touchdowns in the win. Seventeen different players were on the receiving end of passes from UCM quarterbacks in the game, with Jamorris Warren leading the way with six catches, while Seth Mason had a pair of touchdown receptions.
The Mules built a 23-7 advantage going into halftime, and then scored 37 unanswered points in the second half after the Bearcats had trimmed the margin to 23-13 early in the third quarter.
Defensively, the Mules held the potent SBU offense to only one touchdown and forced five turnovers, including a Paul Stephens 61-yard interception return for a touchdown.
The Mules will return to action Thursday night when they travel to Normal, Ill., for a non-conference battle with Illinois State at 6:30 p.m.
