MIAA Announces Preseason Football Polls
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Defending National
Champion and four-time defending MIAA Champion Northwest Missouri
was a unanimous selection as preseason No. 1 in both the MIAA
coaches poll and media poll, it was announced Monday afternoon at
MIAA Football Kickoff Weekend at the Downtown Marriott in Kansas
City.
The Bearcats received 81 points with nine of 10 first-place votes
in the coaches poll (coaches were not able to vote for their own
school), and 330 points with all 33 first-place votes in the media
poll to become the unanimous preseason pick to win the conference
title.
Nebraska-Omaha was selected as number two in the coaches poll,
while Washburn was tabbed No. 2 in the media poll. UNO totaled 65
points in the coaches poll, while WU received 259 points in the
media poll. Omaha was voted No. 4 in the media poll with 236
points, and Washburn was selected No. 3 in the coaches poll with
one first-place vote and 62 points.
Missouri Western earned the No. 3 spot in the media poll and was
voted No. 4 in the coaches poll. The Griffons received 258 points
in the media poll and 61 points in the coaches poll.
Numbers five through 10 were the same in both polls. Central
Missouri comes in at No. 5 with 49 points in the coaches poll and
210 points in the media poll, followed by Pittsburg State at No. 6
with 48 points in the coaches poll and 159 points in the media
poll.
Fort Hays State was selected No. 7 with 29 points in the coaches
poll and 148 points in the media poll, Missouri Southern is No. 8
with 26 points in the coaches poll and 94 points in the media poll,
Emporia State was voted No. 9 with 16 points in the coaches poll
and 72 points in the media poll, and Truman is No. 10 with 13
points in the coaches poll and 49 points in the media poll.
The 2010 football season kicks off Thursday, Aug. 26, with MIAA
play beginning Saturday, Sept. 11.
