Brooks Leads ESU to Shutout of UNO, 5-0

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Derek Brooks pitched a complete game four-hitter to lead No. 2 seed Emporia State to a 5-0 victory over No. 3 seed Nebraska Omaha Friday afternoon at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Brooks struck out four batters for the Hornets while walking just one. At the plate, Jacob White went 3-for-5 with and RBI and two runs scored for ESU.

Emporia State didn't waste any time, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Hornets followed that with four runs in the second to extend the lead to 5-0, which proved to be the final margin. The Hornets stole seven bases on the afternoon, with White swiping four, Andy Cotton recording two and Dillon Hazlett stealing one.

Brady Hohl recorded three of Nebraska Omaha's four hits in four at-bats, while Mark Waldron had the other Maverick hit.

Emporia State advanced to Saturday's winner's bracket game at 11 a.m. against top-seeded Central Missouri, while Nebraska Omaha will take on No. 5 seed Missouri Western Friday at 7 p.m.
