Nebraska Omaha Races Past Missouri Western
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Boosted by an eight-run fourth inning, No. 3 seed Nebraska Omaha defeated No. 5 seed Missouri Western, 10-5, Friday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
Mark Waldron went 4-for-6 with two RBIs and a run score to lead Nebraska Omaha at the plate.
With the game tied 2-2 after three, UNO pushed eight runs across in the top of the fourth to take a 10-2 lead. From there, Missouri Western mustered one run in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the seventh to cut the UNO lead to 10-5, but the Mavericks shut the Griffons out over the final two innings to secure the victory.
Missouri Western was led on the night by Spencer Shockley, who finished the game 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, including a double in the bottom of the third that scored two to tie the game at 2.
With the win, Nebraska Omaha moves on to face the loser of the Central Missouri/Emporia State game Saturday at 3 p.m. The UCM/ESU game will begin Saturday at 11 a.m. Missouri Western, following its Friday losses to Central Missouri and UNO, is eliminated.
