Joplin, Mo. – Missouri Southern scored early and held on to defeated Emporia State 4-1 and eliminate them from the MIAA Baseball Tournament.
 
Missouri Southern jumped on top in the bottom of the first as Dave Prose and Brent Graham started the scoring with back-to-back RBI singles. Richie Gorski would pop out to the center fielder to sacrifice home Prost and make it a 3-0 lead.
 
Gorski would add to the Lion lead in the bottom of the third as he singled to third and forced home Tyler Sutherland. The Hornets got a run back in the top of the fifth inning as Taylor Sanagorski doubled to deep right and BJ Dean came across the plate.
 
Seth Mesey threw a complete game striking out five on the way to the victory allowing just four hits and one earned run.
 
The Lions will face Lindenwood at 7:35 p.m. tonight from Warren Turner Field in Joplin, Mo.
