Oklahoma City, Okla. – Emporia State used the speed on the base paths as two stolen bases led to runs in a 5-1 win that eliminated Missouri Western from the MIAA Softball Championship at ASA Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Missouri Western jumped out on top as Sydney Washington led off the bottom of the second with a home run to left center field. The Hornets would answer in the top of the third as Annelise Rockley singled to drive home Caitlin VanVleck.
Emporia State would take their first lead of the game as Katie Yoakum singled down the left field line driving in two runs. Hailey Cope then added to the ESU lead as she singled to center bring VanVleck home for a second time.
The Hornets built a 5-1 advantage in the top of the seventh as Rockley flied out to left field to score Stockman.
In the circle Holly Hinkel pitched four innings allowing just one hit and one run to pick up the victory while Eryn Stockman closed out the final three to pick up the save.
The Hornets will await the loser of Northwest Missouri and Central Oklahoma in a game that is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
