Kansas City, Mo. – The MIAA women’s basketball tournament will open with seeds 9, 10, 11 and 12 traveling to seeds 5, 6, 7 and 8 for 7 p.m. tip-offs on Feb. 28 with a trip to Kansas City on the line.
#5 Central Oklahoma vs. #12 Northwest Missouri
Fifth seeded Central Oklahoma will host Northwest Missouri, who earned the #12 seed, in a a first round game in Edmond, Okla.
The Bronchos are led by Melinda Murillo who is averaging 14.4 points and 3.5 assists per contest. Olivia Mason is averaging 11.2 points and 7.3 rebounds while Jesheon Cooper is averaging 10.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest.
The Bearcats are led by Tanya Meyer who is averaging just shy of a double-double with 20 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. Jasmine Howe is averaging 14.0 points and Arbrie Benson averages 11.7 points per game.
The winner will face of #4 Missouri Western in the quarterfinal round with a scheduled tip of 8:30 p.m. on March 3 from Kansas City, Mo. and Municipal Auditorium.
#6 Fort Hays State vs. #11 Missouri Southern
Sixth seeded Fort Hays State will play host to #11 seed Missouri Southern in an opening round game from Hays, Kan.
The Tigers are led by Jill Faxon who is averaging 11.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Tatyana Legette is averaging 9.9 points and a team best 7.8 rebounds per game on the season.
The Lions are led by Deb Holcomb who is averaging 15.6 points and Desirea Buerge who is averaging 12.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest. Chelsey Henry is also averaging double figures with 10.4 points per game.
The winner will face off with third seeded Emporia State at 12 noon on March 3 from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
#7 Washburn vs. #10 Southwest Baptist
The seventh seeded Ichabods will play host to tenth seeded Southwest Baptist in a first round game from Topeka, Kan.
The Ichabods are led by Alyxis Bowens who is averaging 12.7 points and a team best 7.1 rebounds per contest. Also in double figures are Jharian Brown with 11.4 points, Reagan Phelan with 11.1 points and Erika Lane with 11.0 points per game.
The Bearcats are led by Megan Rosenbohm who is averaging 16.7 points and dishing out 2.1 assists per game. Caylee Richardson is averaging 11.6 points and a team best 7.2 rebounds per contest.
The winner will take on second seeded Central Missouri at 2:30 p.m. on March 3 from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.
#8 Nebraska-Kearney vs. #9 Lindenwood
Eighth seeded Nebraska-Kearney will play host to ninth seeded Lindenwood to open the MIAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.
The Lopers are led by Michaela Berry who is averaging 15.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. McKenzie Brown also averages double figures with 12.0 points per game while Alexa Hogberg dishes out a team best 3.5 assists per game.
The Lions are led by Kallie Bildner who is averaging a nearly a double-double with 15.2 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Gabby Walker is averaging 10.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest as well.
The winner will take on top seeded Pittsburg State at 6 p.m. on March 3 from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
