Kansas City, Mo. – It will be two teams divided by just 150 miles as second seeded Pittsburg State faces fourth seeded Emporia State for the MIAA Women’s Basketball Championship. The Lady Hornets got to the title game with an 85-74 victory over Missouri Western and PSU earned a 90-74 win over Fort Hays State in the semifinals.
For the Gorillas Mikaela Burgess is averaging 18.0 points while Kyle Gafford adds 13.6 points and 5.9 rebounds. Cathy Brugman is averaging 12.6 points and Hadyn Herlocker is dishing out a team best 4.7 assists per contest. Coming into the championship game PSU is averaging 75.2 points while only giving competitors 63.7 points per game.
For the Lady Hornets are led by Kelly Moten who is averaging 16.2 points and 4.7 assists per game. Sandra Ngoie is averaging 12.8 points while Kelsey Barnwell and Kathryn Flott are each averaging 10.2 points per contest.
The winner will receive the MIAA’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division II National Tournament for which the field will be announced at 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 6 at ncaa.com.
