Kansas City, Mo. – The MIAA Volleyball Championship is slated to get underway this Tuesday, Nov. 15 with four games hosted by the higher seeds.
#1 Nebraska-Kearney vs. #8 Emporia State
The top seeded Lopers will play host to the eighth seeded Hornets as the tournament opens on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. in Kearney, Neb.
The Lopers are led by Kailtyn Thomas at the net as she is averaging 3.32 kills per set and hitting .275 on the year. Lindsey Smith has served as the teams primary setter averaging 11.65 assists per set. On the return Ellie McDonnell is leading the way averaging 4.71 digs per set with Tara Ziegelbein leading the team with 0.97 blocks per set.
The Hornets are led by Josie Williams who is averaging 2.90 kills per set while Danika Burton is averaging 1.20 blocks per set. The Hornets utilize a two setter system with Kimberly Bell averaging 4.59 assists and Emma Dixon 4.34 assists per set. On the return Allie Maloney is leading the way averaging 5.09 digs per set.
The winner will face off with the winner of Central Missouri and Fort Hays State in the semifinal round.
#2 Washburn vs. #7 Missouri Western
The second seeded Ichabods will play host to the seventh Griffons at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 from Topeka, Kan.
The Ichabods are led by Leanna Willer who is averaging 3.63 kills per set while Sarah Vicory is hitting .395 this year. Natalie Bates serves as the team’s primary setter averaging 8.37 assists per set. On the return Alyssa Carney is leading the way averaging 5.28 digs per set with Vicory leading the team with 1.01 blocks per set.
The Griffons are led by Rachel Friedrichs who is averaging 2.90 kills per set while hitting .340 on the year and averaging 0.71 blocks per set. Kortney Blaufuss has led the team at stter averaging 9.83 assists per set while Lauren Murphy averages 8.32 assists per set.
The winner will face either Central Oklahoma or Northwest Missouri in the semifinal round.
#3 Central Oklahoma vs. #6 Northwest Missouri
The third seeded Bronchos will open the tournament by playing host to the sixth seeded Bearcats at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 in Edmonda, Okla.
The Bronchos are led on the attack by Taylor Bevis who is averaging 3.95 kills per set. Katy Davis serves as the team’s primary setter and is averaging 11.71 asissts per set this season. On the return Dominique Lipari leads the way averaging 4.86 digs per set and Jordan Spence is averaging 1.01 blocks per set.
The Bearcats are led by Maddy Bruder who is averaging 3.68 kills per set and Alexis Williams with 1.05 blocks per set. Sarah Dannettell is the team’s primary setter averaging 9.69 assists per set on the year. On the return Olivia Nowakowski is leading the way averaging 4.61 digs per set.
The winner will face off with Washburn or Missouri Western in the semifinal round.
#4 Central Missouri vs. #5 Fort Hays State
The fourth seeded Jennies will play host to the fifth seeded Tigers in the opening round match-up on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. from Warrensburg.
The Jennies are led by Cheyanne Lyons who is averaging 2.94 kills per set and Mackenzie Harding with 0.64 blocks per set. In the passing game Kourtney Thompson serves as the primary setter averaging 10.38 assists per set. On the return Carly Offerdahl is averaging 3.41 digs and Katie Carlson 3.37 digs per set.
The Tigers are led on the attack by Rebekah Spainhour who is averaging 3.10 kills per set and hitting .346 on the season. Hannah Wagy serves the squad's primary setter averaging 11.53 assists per set. On the return Crystal Whitten, who averages 4.14 kills per set is averaging 3.18 digs per set.
The winner will face off with either Nebraska-Kearney or Emporia State in the semifinal round.
