Kansas City, Mo. – The Pittsburg State men repeated as the MIAA Men’s Indoor Champions and Central Missouri edged out Lincoln to claim the women’s league title. For the second straight season Jeff Fraley was the men’s high point winner as Erika Kinsey of Central Missouri claimed women’s high point honors.
Zoe Sharplin of Central Missouri claimed the first MIAA title of the weekend winning the pentathlon with a score 3,831. Her teammate Madison Smith finished in second and Emilyn Dearman of Pittsburg State was third overall. In the men’s heptathlon Tanner McNutt of Pittsburg State scored 5,413 points to claim the MIAA title. Payson Madyew of Emporia State was second and PSU’s Jeff Piepenbrink came in third.
As things moved to the field events on Saturday Erika Kinsey jumped 41’ 3.75” to win the MIAA Indoor triple jump championship. Amira Jenkins of Pittsburg State came in second and Kendra Smith of Lindenwood finished in third place. In the men’s triple jump Darion Boure of Missouri Southern claimed the MIAA Championship with a 50’ 4.50” leap. Marquise Cushon of Pittsburg State finished in second place and Central Missouri’s Nick Ramirez came in third.
In the men’s high jump Samuel Saidi of Emporia State cleared 6’ 11.50” to claim the league title. Northwest Missouri Kein Schultz earned second place while Justice Burks came in third place overall.
Next up was the women’s pole vault where Brittany Kallenberger of Central Missouri cleared 12’ 7.50” to claim the championship. Melanie Bower was in secon place and Brooke Frederick edged our opponents for third place.
In the women’s weight throw Heavin Warner of Central Missouri threw an MIAA championship meet record of 64’ 10.50” to win the title. Lindsey Blackwell of LIndenwood was second and Cassie Casswell of Pittsburg State finished third. In the men’s shot put Bo Farrow of Pittsburg State threw 56’ 3.75” to earn 10 points for this team. His teammate Garrett Appier finished second while Jacob Mahin of Central Missouri claimed third place.
In the women’s 5,000 meter run on Saturday night Jessica Macy of Pittsburg State finished in 17:17.09 to earn the title. Missouri Southern’s Kaitlyn Belisle was second and Morgan Benesch of Nebraska-Kearney was third. In the men’s race Cory Keehn of Fort Hays State turned in a 14:45.41 to earn the MIAA Championship. Nebraska-Kearney’s Bryan Hill finished in second place and Jonny Bernasky of Fort Hays State was in third.
In the women’s distance medley relay on Saturday night Southwest Baptist set an MIAA meet record with a time of 12:01.93 to win the championship. Lincoln finished in second place and Missouri Southern finished in third. A meet record was also set in the men’s race as Central Missouri finished in 10:15.65 to claim the title. Nebraska-Kearney came in second place and Northwest Missouri finished in third overall.
As things got going on Sunday morning with the women’s long jump Erika Kinsey jumped 19’ 8.75” to win her second MIAA title. Brittani Reagan of Missouri Southern placed second and her teammate Kaylee Morgan was third. In the men’s long jump Emporia State’s Donald Wilcox used a jump of 24’ 1.75” to win the MIAA Championship. Second place went to Nebraska-Kearney’s Brady Land and Orneldo Thomas of Lincoln finished third.
Kinsey claimed her third MIAA title by clearing 5’ 11.5” in the women’s long jump setting an MIAA meet record. Her teammate Madison Smith finished second and Morgan Brant of Emporia State was third. In the men’s pole vault Cole Phillips of Central Missouri claimed the MIAA champions clearing 16’ 9.25” which is an automatic qualifier to the national meet. Morgan Hold of Missouri Southern was second with Jeff Piepenbrink of Pittsburg State finishing in third.
Next up was the men’s weight throw as Caniggia Raynor of UCM won in his home arena throwing 67’ 8” for the title. Nebraska-Kearney’s Colby Jurgens was second with Missouri Southern’s Bryan Burns finishing in third. In the women’s shot put Heavin Warner of Central Missouri used a throw of 47’ 8.50” to claim her second MIAA championship of the weekend. Jasmine Smith of Pittsburg State was second with Kayla Henault of Emporia State earning the third place slot.
Things then turned to the track as Emily Harris ran a 4:58.93 to earn the women’s mile title. Elizabeth Luckel of Southwest Baptist was second with Monique Thompson of Lincoln coming in third. In the men’s mile Nebraska-Kearney’s Cole Wellnitz ran a 4:12.13 to earn the MIAA Championship. Adam Tredway of Central Missouri was second and Jerod Schoneman of Nebraska-Kearney came in third.
The hurdles were then put on the track and Ladonna Richards of Lincoln tied a meet record finishing the 60 meters in 8.42 to earn the title. Zoe Sharplin of Central Missouri was second and Junielle Barker also of Lincoln finished third. In the men’s race Andrew Etheridge of Emporia finished in 7.99 to earn the MIAA title. Just behind him were Andre Sanders and Justice Burks of Pittsburg State for second and third.
The hurdles were then pulled, but the distance stayed the same as Yanique Ellington ran a 7.55 to win the title for Lincoln. Her teammates Janae Johnson and Kimberly Bailey finished second and third. As the men took to the track Jeff Fraley of Missouri Southern used a 6.75 to claim the championship. Bryce Starks of Pittsburg State finished second with DeAngelo Strickling of LIndenwood just edging out teammate Juwan Cubit for third.
In the women’s 400 meter dash Willomena Williams ran a 55.97 to claim the MIAA championship for Lincoln. Amber White of Missouri Southern finished second with Jhvere Hall of Lincoln coming in third place. For the men Maverick Bowleg of Southwest Baptist finished in 48.51 to earn the title. Osvaldo Granillo of Central Missouri came in second and Jeff Fraley of MSSU was third.
In the 600 yard run Kailey Fuchs held serve on her home track finishing at a 1:24.98 pace. Emilyn Dearman was second and Morgan Hopkins of Nebraska-Kearney finished in third place. In the men’s race Sam Kohrs of Missouri Southern finished in 1:13.37 to claim the championship. Jacob Randle of Central Missouri was second with Cody Wirth coming in third place.
In the women’s 800 meter run Kindra Emberton of Missouri Southern used a 2:13.98 time to earn the gold medal. Monique Thompson of Lincoln was second followed by teammate Jhvere Hall. In the men’s race Kellin Loch won on his home track finishing with a 1:53.00 pace.
In the women’s 200 meter dash Yanique Ellington of Lincoln finished in 24.34 to win the championship. Her teammates Janae Johnson and Kimberley Bailey finished in second and third place. In the men’s 200 meter dash Jeff Fraley set a 21.51 pace to claim the title for Missouri Southern. Jason Crow of Pittsburg State was second with DeAngelo Strickling claiming third place.
In the 3,000 meter run for the women Elizabeth Luckel finished with a 10:20.36 time to win the event. Fort Hays State’s Alex Keehn finished second and Northwest Missouri’s Anne Herbert was third. In the men’s race Cory Keehn ran an 8:26.67 to earn his second MIAA championship of the weekend. Jonny Bernasky also of FHSU was second with Nebraska-Kearney’s Nick Knudson finishing in third place.
In the final event of the day Lincoln won the women’s 4x400 meter relay with a 3:48.94 pace. Northwest Missouri finished in second and Southwest Baptist placed third overall. Lincoln made it a sweep in the men’s race as they set a 3:21.26 pace to claim the title. Emporia State finished as they runner-up and Nebraska-Kearney took third place.
