Kansas City, Mo. – Central Oklahoma grabbed four first team members and Emporia State added three to lead the voting for the All-MIAA Baseball Teams released today. The team comes out the final four is about to hit the field in Springfield, Mo. to decide the MIAA Tournament Champion.
The MIAA Player of the Year is Phillip Wilson a shortstop and relief pitcher from Central Oklahoma. Wilson hit .453 and hit 13 home runs while driving in 44 runs and scoring 56 runs and also adding eight saves in the pen. The MIAA Pitcher of the Year is his teammate Ricky Reaves who went 8-1 on the season and had a 2.01 earned run average while opposing hitters batted just .221 against him.
The MIAA Freshman of the Year comes from Northeastern State in pitcher Ryan Helsley. Helsley was 7-3 on the season with a 3.72 earned run average and held opposing hitters to a .229 batting average. The MIAA Coach of the Year is Southwest Baptist’s Chris Martin who led his team to a 24-15 record in league play and a spot in the MIAA Tournament.
Joining Reeves on the pitching staff are Emporia State’s Shawn Talkington and Central Missouri’s Kyle Gehrs. Brenton Higgins is the first teamer out of the bullpen after leading Emporia State in saves.
The first team catcher comes from Emporia State’s rival Washburn as David Gauntt earned first team honors. Around the horn, Jake O’ Brien of Central Oklahoma anchors first base, Levi Parker of Emporia State is at second, Wilson is short and Spencer Blacksher of Southwest Baptist is at third base.
In the outfield Cody Robinson of Northeastern State joins Anthony Pacheco of Nebraska-Kearney and Brad Wilson of Central Missouri. The Designated hitter is Josh Ingram of Central Oklahoma with Danny Droll of Nebraska-Kearney being named the utility player.
